प्रकाशिक संचार (Optical Communication ) किसे कहते हैं ?
प्रकाशिक संचार , संचार की वह विधि है जिसमें सिगनलों के प्रसारण में प्रकाशिक आवृत्ति परास का उपयोग किया जाता है।
किसी संचार तंत्र की बैण्ड चौड़ाई उसकी वाहक आवृत्ति पर निर्भर करती है।
वाहक आवृत्ति अधिक होने पर बैण्ड चौड़ाई भी अधिक होती है।
किसी संचार तंत्र की बैण्ड चौड़ाई सामान्यतः वाहक आवृत्ति का 10% होती है।
उदाहरण के लिए , 100 मेगाहर्ट्ज ( MHz ) वाहक तरंग वाले अति उच्च आवृत्ति (VHF) रेडियो तंत्र की बैण्ड चौड़ाई 100 का 10% = 10 MHZ होगी।
इसी प्रकार 6GHz (गीगाहर्टज) पर प्रचालित माइक्रो तरंग रेडियो तंत्र बैण्ड चौड़ाई 6का 10% = 0.6 GHz अर्थात 600 MHz होगी।
दृश्य प्रकाश की आवृत्ति 10¹⁴ हर्ट्ज ( 1,00,000 GHz ) के क्रम की होती है।
यदि दृश्य प्रकाश की इस आवृत्ति को वाहक आवृत्ति लिया जाये तो बैण्ड चौड़ाई 1,00,000 का 10% = 10,000 GHz होगी।
यह बैण्ड चौड़ाई माइक्रो तरंग रेडियो तंत्र की आवृत्ति की लगभग 10⁴ गुनी है।
इस प्रकार यदि टेलीफोन लिंक में प्रकाश तंतु केबल का उपयोग किया जाये
तो एक ही समय में टेलीफोन से विश्वभर के सभी लोग एक साथ बात कर सकते हैं।
इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि प्रकाशिक संचार तंत्र भविष्य के संचार आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति के लिए उपयुक्त एवं पर्याप्त तंत्र होगा।
